Training on peer review in the era of open science: Co-organised by the Ukrainian Reproducibility Network

The Ukrainian Reproducibility Network (UARN), established with TIER2 support, is continuing its work to promote open and reproducible science. Together with the Open4UA project and the Institute for Digitalisation of Education of the NAES of Ukraine, UARN is co-organising a course titled “Peer Review in the Era of Open and Reproducible Science: New Challenges and Opportunities.” The event is hosted by the University of Ljubljana and it takes place from 11 to 28 November.

The course explores how open science and open peer review are transforming scholarly communication and shaping reproducibility standards worldwide. Participants will learn to assess data, methods, and code to verify research findings, provide constructive and evidence-based feedback, and navigate ethical responsibilities in peer review. They will also be introduced to digital and AI tools that help trace data provenance, detect inconsistencies, and ensure reproducibility.

Among the course speakers is Allyson Lister from the University of Oxford, who will present the TIER2 project and the Editorial Reference Handbook, a product of the project’s Pilot 8. The handbook offers guidance for scholarly journals and publishers to support reproducibility and FAIR research practices in everyday workflows.

The event is open to researchers, peer reviewers, journal editors, and all members of the Ukrainian academic community, providing an engaging opportunity to enhance skills in conducting peer review that promotes openness, transparency, and reproducibility in research. This initiative highlights Ukraine’s active role in advancing open science, research integrity, and reproducible research, offering the academic community a valuable professional development opportunity.
