TIER2 at the 8th World Conference on Research Integrity (WCRI)

6 March 2024

TIER2 is pleased to announce that we will have a significant presence at the 8th World Conference on Research Integrity (WCRI), taking place 2-5 June 2024 in Athens, Greece.

The biannual WCRIs are multidisciplinary events focusing on research findings, reflection, and policy development. All stakeholders in research integrity are involved, including universities, research institutes, research funders, publishers, and governments.

Improving research integrity is a crucial component of boosting reproducibility of research. As such, WCRI is an important conference for TIER2 and we are proud to have guidance from two of the three WCRI co-chairs, Lex Bouter and Maura Hiney, as part of our Advisory Board. Further, members of TIER2 were pleased to engage as reviewers for conference submissions. We, along with our sister projects OSIRIS and iRISE, will also co-locate our projects’ General Assembly with the conference, from 6-7th June in Athens.

With the recent announcements of submission outcomes, we are glad to report that TIER2 will have a heavy presence not only in attending, but also in presenting our results at WCRI. In total, we will be represented by one plenary panel, one podium presentation, and six poster presentations.

In our plenary panel, entitled “The Future(s) of reproducibility: how reproducibility reform improves research integrity”, leading experts will present the current state of affairs (1) related to disciplinary diversity, they present new research results (2), which explore stakeholders’ (researchers, funders, and publishers) vision for their ideal future(s) for reproducibility, including the implementation of policy that foster research integrity. We discuss the culture change (3) needed to take the next steps for adaptation of reproducibility in diverse academic contexts and finally, we discuss the perspective of publishers on reproducibility.

In our podium presentation, entitled “TIER2’s activities to foster a next-level funders community in reproducibility”, Alexandra Bannach-Brown will present TIER2’s co-creation activities, strategies, and events we have carried out to engage with funders, building on the active funders’ community and their expert knowledge of their portfolios and needs, to support the implementation of tools which will increase reproducibility and research integrity in the long run.

Our poster presentations will detail a range of our other activities, including the overall strategy of the project, the relevance and feasibility of reproducibility across research contexts, our funding call to support new Reproducibility Networks, “future studies” work with stakeholders on strategies to boost reproducibility, strategies for co-creation, and technical work to enhance reproducibility in computational experiments.

The full list of our accepted WCRI contributions is presented in the table below.

TIER2 is really looking forward to engaging with the WCRI community in sharing and gaining feedback on this work, as well as in discussions on other topics and potential future work. Early registration for WCRI closes on 15 March 2024, so we’d encourage you to register soon hereWe hope to see you all at WCRI in June!
