On 23 June, Eleni Adamidi from the Athena Research Center will present the paper “A Virtual Laboratory for Managing Computational Experiments’’ at the 37th International Conference on Scalable Scientific Data Management (SSDBM 2025), held in Columbus, Ohio. The event is aimed at bringing together domain experts, data management researchers, practitioners, and developers for the presentation and exchange of the latest research results on concepts, tools, and techniques for scalable and scientific data management.
Adamidi’s presentation will highlight the work done in TIER2’s Pilot 3 and the SCHEMA lab, an open-source virtual laboratory designed to help researchers manage the increasing complexity of computational experiments. As scientific research becomes more data-intensive and reliant on intricate workflows, tools like SCHEMA lab offer practical solutions for improving reproducibility, tracking performance, and managing detailed metadata.
SCHEMA lab enables researchers to group multiple tasks into a single experiment, monitor their progress, and ensure that both the results and the process behind them can be transparently documented and reproduced. The system builds on existing technologies such as containerisation and workflow automation, providing a flexible environment to manage the full life cycle of computational experiments.
The demonstration is scheduled for 13:30 local time and will form part of a wider programme at SSDBM 2025, which brings together researchers, developers, and practitioners in scalable scientific data management.
