TIER2 launches international workshop on computational reproducibility in social sciences

18 February 2025

TIER2 partners from GESIS and Know Center are hosting a workshop as a part of The International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media (ICWSM) forum. Happening on 23 June, it will bring together researchers from multiple disciplines to share knowledge, discuss ideas, and learn about research in diverse fields with the common theme of investigating the interplay of web and society.

The workshop calls for theoretical and practical research contributions that employ qualitative, quantitative and analytical approaches including full papers, short papers, resource papers, position papers and posters. Find out more about the submission guidelines here.

The “Social Science Meets Web Data: Reproducible and Reusable Computational Approaches” workshop is aimed at advancing computational reproducibility in social science research, particularly in studies involving behavioural data from social media and other digital platforms. The workshop seeks to critically assess current practices in computational reproducibility within the social sciences and identify the challenges and barriers that hinder progress in this area. A key component of the workshop will be the introduction of guidelines and checklists specifically designed to support reproducibility in social science research. These resources will be applied on a dedicated computational methods platform Methods Hub, which provides a structured framework for transparent, reusable, and reproducible computational methods.

Throughout the workshop, participants will engage in interactive discussions and hands-on activities to evaluate these tools, explore their applications in a variety of research scenarios, and identify areas for improvement. The goal is to develop efficient, accessible, and easy-to-follow approaches that enhance computational reproducibility, transparency, adaptability, and citation potential.

All contributions are eligible for the “Best Paper” award, which will be given to the best contribution during the closing session.
