Assessing the еvidence: Do оpen science interventions improve research reproducibility and replicability?

20 May 2025

new scoping review, supported by TIER2 and OSIRIS, has examined the literature on how open science interventions affect the reproducibility and replicability of research across disciplines.

The authors highlight that, although various ‘efforts underscore a shared commitment towards reproducibility within much of the academic landscape, the extent to which practices and interventions have been empirically investigated for their effectiveness to improve reproducibility, across research disciplines and time, remains unclear’.

The study screened literature across six major databases and identified 105 empirical studies that evaluated interventions designed to improve reproducibility or replicability. Of these, 15 directly assessed whether the intervention led to more reproducible or replicable research outcomes.

The review highlights key gaps in the evidence and offers a starting point for researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders looking to support better research practices.
